10 week old baby White Bellied Caiques

The babies are really rambunctious at this age!! They are rowdy and looking for trouble!!

It is kind of difficult to get a video of them as they are everywhere!! As you can see the oldest baby wanted the bundle of bananas and there was nothing that could get his mind off those bananas!!

We are hoping these babies will be weaned right around the middle to late December.

12 day old Baby Meyers Feeding time

Listen to this baby chirp to let me know it is feeding time!! After I feed her she quiets down for 3 or so hours and then she chirps again to remind me to feed her!!

Unfortunately there was just one baby in this clutch. The parents have already had two successful clutches this year. They then had another clutch in which all the babies died as she decided not to feed them. When she had this clutch I took a chance and gave the one fertile egg to a pair of Sun conures. The sun conures were sitting on some infertile eggs. The sun conures really surprised me and fed this baby for a good 7 days. I didn't want to leave the baby too long with the sun conures as I was worried the momma would notice the african meyers baby was acting different than the conure babies she has fed in the past. I was afraid she would kill the baby thinking there was something wrong with the baby.

This baby is doing terrific now and eats very well.

9 week old baby Caiques

The babies are now 9 weeks old. They have all learned how to fly this week. I have trimmed just the very tips of their wings so that they can still fly pretty far distances, but they can not fly to high places where I can not reach them.

They are all doing very well and all of them are very sweet and outgoing!!

Baby caiques and Conure play time

The babies are a good 8 weeks old now. They are so very sweet and playful right now!! The oldest baby has been flying for a couple of days now and I am sure the other two will be flying soon also.

Sugar and Jenny both have families now. We are very happy about that...but I sure am going to miss these little angels!! I don't think there will ever be another baby like Sugar. I have sure enjoyed her personality. As you can see in this video she is very maternal and caring and seems to really want to care for her little siblings. Parrot play time

I know this video is kinda long!! This video is for Erica who wanted to see more of Sugar's personality. We are hoping to find great homes for Jenny and Sugar soon. Jenny hatched on 7-12-09 and Sugar hatched on 6-28-09. They are both weaned and hoping to be in their new home for the holidays. :-)

Dancing Dixie

Dixie loves dancing for her dad. Lately she has been doing this slowed down dance where she pins her eyes and her shoulders kinda flare out and she seems to go in a trance. It is strange. I am wondering if it is a hormonal thing.

Breakfast Time

I just thought it was funny this morning as I fixed breakfast all the birds were squawking and happy to see the new day. well....as soon as I gave them all their breakfast there was complete silence as Dixie, Sugar, and Jenny ate their breakfast!!

I often get emails from people who write to me asking for help in quieting a screaming bird during dinner or a phone call. Well.....here you go...... give them a nice plate of good food!!

The three youngest babies in this video are about 6 weeks old. They are just starting to explore a bit and are almost fully feathered. The older weaned baby visiting with them is a baby I call Sugar. She is a little older than 4 months and she is a real sweet heart. She is very friendly and really loves playing with other birds. We are hoping to find her a home soon!!
